Dr. Trish Leigh Announces IRB-Approved Neuroscience Study on Pornography-Induced Erectile Dysfunction (PIED)

A Major Step Forward in PIED Research

Dr. Trish Leigh, Ph.D., cognitive neuroscientist and internationally recognized expert in brain mapping and neurofeedback, is proud to announce that her upcoming neuroscience study on Pornography-Induced Erectile Dysfunction (PIED) has officially received Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval.

The study will launch in early 2026 and will be among the first to investigate whether quantitative EEG (qEEG) brain mapping can identify neurophysiological patterns associated with PIED.

The Hypothesis Behind the Study

The study aims to test the hypothesis that excessive digital overstimulation from explicit content may influence neural pathways related to arousal, inhibition, motivation, and cognitive control.

This research does not assume outcomes. Instead, it seeks to examine whether individuals reporting PIED show distinct neurophysiological characteristics compared to normative controls.

Why This Research Matters

PIED is an increasingly common challenge for men, yet science has not fully explored whether the condition may involve objective, measurable changes in brain functioning.

This IRB-approved study is designed to:

  • Explore whether pornography-related sexual difficulties may have a neurological component
  • Examine brain-based patterns that could contribute to PIED
  • Support scientific understanding of the condition
  • Lay the groundwork for future clinical or technological interventions

What Happens Next

Beginning January 2026, participants will undergo qEEG recordings, and researchers will compare data between PIED and non-PIED groups. Findings will be reviewed for publication once data collection and analysis are complete.
