3 Proven Ways to Make Your Own Luck

We are a very Irish family and we try to make our own luck whenever possible. Both my husband’s family and mine are straight from Dublin, Ireland. In fact, the hubs, Dr. Cosmas Leigh, grew up in Ireland and emigrated here when he was 7 years old. This month I want to impart to you the “Luck O’ the Irish” and how to create it for yourself by using your mind. Use the three easy steps to increase your luck today.

Visualize Your Stepping-Stone Path to Success

Visualizing has been shown to increase the likelihood that your dreams will come true. So, write down your goals and add a picture. Neuroscience shows that this is more powerful than just thinking about it. After your goals are written, jot down three steps to make each goal come true. If you need more steps, add more. The key is to then go out and take an action step toward the first smaller objective, not the larger goal itself. Accomplish the first step and then celebrate. Reward yourself for getting to step one. Neuroplasticity will help you move forward to step two with greater gusto. Then keep going. Visualizing plus action and rewards in steps will get you to your end goal faster. Not only that, but you will also have established a consistent habit that you can use with all your goals for lasting positive change.

Be Open to Opportunity to Find Luck

One of our favorite movies is Yes Man. In it, the character played by Jim Carrey makes an oath to say “yes” to every opportunity that comes his way. In the end, he meets a new girlfriend, gets promoted at work, establishes stronger relationships with his friends, all because he said “yes”. By opening his mind and heart he puts his brain in the mode to expect good things to come to him. You can do it too. Say “yes” to something today that you might not ordinarily. If your neighbor invites you for coffee, say “yes”. Your child wants you to ride a scooter around the neighborhood, do it (that’s me by the way, the middle-age woman you frequently see scooting through the neighborhood on a Saturday). When you open yourself up to new challenges, people, and environments, your luck will change.

Relax and Luck Will Find You

When you relax and stay calm your brain uses medium processing speed. This is called Low Beta and it is the speed associated with the “zone” and “manifesting”. If you have seen the movie “The Secret”, whether you liked it or not, the secret really is to keep your brain calm. Scientists at Harvard have studied this and measured the impact. When you are relaxed using Low Beta, what you want will come toward you. When you get stressed or anxious, your brain makes more extra fast speed, High Beta. This speed will repel your goals. Why? Because High Beta puts other people off. Our brains attune with one another’s. If you are more stressed, the other person will pick up on it and you will, accidentally, block your own achievements. So, stay chill.

Don’t sit around waiting for luck to come your way. As the old adage by scientist Louis Pasteur says, “luck favors the prepared”. Expect good things and you will get them.

If you cannot use these tips to avoid anxiety and make your own luck then you might be able to benefit from Home Neurofeedback. It can create a state of calm focus for you and help you to achieve your goals faster and easier. Check it out HERE.
