Sex After Porn

Do You Feel Off After Sex?

Is sex after porn feeling off? Recovering from porn addiction can come with its challenges. One of those challenges can include feeling off after having sex.

Is this normal?

Why is this happening?

Can this be fixed?

Will it always be this way?

Sex After Porn: Dopamine Deficit

Feeling off after having sex, even when having sustained from watching porn for a period of time, is normal. This type of feeling can arise due to a dopamine deficit. The brain will experience this after not receiving its usual dopamine from porn consumption. This deficit can cause stress, anxiety, and irritability as the brain tries to search for the higher level rush that it’s used to getting. Due to those needs not being met, the brain will become cranky and restless as it continues to seek.

“Until the brain receives a higher level of dopamine, or until it gets used to life without porn, it’s going to feel off.”

Solution For Having Sex After Porn

If the aftermath of sex is challenging when going through the porn addiction recovery process, it may be advised to sustain from sex altogether for 30 to 90 days. While 30 days can be a good start, 90 days is what is more highly recommended. This is so that the porn brain pattern can unwire itself, and if completing all the right recovery steps, will rewire to a healthy brain pattern. At the end of the 90 days, when engaging in sex, the brain will gladly accept these lower, healthier levels of dopamine.

Take the time needed to let the brain develop healthy levels of dopamine. This will ensure having sex with a partner will be fun, healthy, and engaging for both parties.
