How Porn Delays Brain Development

I’m Dr. Trish Leigh, let me tell you how porn delays brain development. In this video, we’re going to cover three things. Number one, I’m quickly going to tell you how your brain should develop in terms of using electoral energy. Then number two I’m going to share with you how porn disrupts the development of your brain in that way and why how it’s impacted. Then number three is your brain tip for the day, what you can do to begin to develop your brain today.

 

 

How’s your brain supposed to develop in and of itself if it’s developing optimally?

So you know how I always talk about brain speeds especially if you are hooked on pornography your brain is likely using a lot of excessive very fast speed and using too much slow speed simultaneously. That’s what brings your brain back to the screen for more calming of the fast speed and stimulating of the slow speed. I’m always telling you that our goal is to pop up perfect processing speed in the middle so that your brain is processing your world. Your life in real-time so that you can stay present and enjoy yourself, be happy, and get the dopamine flowing in the right amounts along with serotonin in the right amounts and be in your life and be content.

The way that our brain develops from birth is that when you are born your brain is supposed to use a lot of that extra slow speed. Basically, when we’re all baby’s what do baby’s do, they sleep. Therefore, when your brain is using a lot of slow speed it makes you sleep and that is very typical and healthy. Then as you’re growing up into infancy to toddlerhood and childhood that slow speed is supposed to go down. When that slow speed goes down you are more alert, you can learn, you can become focused. When that slow speed goes down in that frontal lobe you develop executive function skills which means you can make big picture goals and set small objectives towards those goals and their attainment. What it means is you can think for yourself, you start developing your own opinions, you can make good judgments, and you can pump the brakes because your frontal lobe becomes the brakes in decision making so that you don’t make bad decisions and you make good ones that keep you moving forward. So as you grow up the slow speed is supposed to go down and your frontal lobe is especially supposed to become activated.

 

What happens when you start consuming pornography as a child or a young adolescent?

What happens is that slow speed doesn’t go down in the front of your brain in the prefrontal cortex in the frontal lobe. We know this from science. Science proves that the younger you are that you begin to consume pornography the more it’s going to impact your brain because of this it’s called hypofrontality. Hypofrontality means not enough of the perfect speed in the middle in the frontal lobe, not enough activation and it happens in two ways. Number one there’s much too much slow speed because your brain didn’t develop and have that slow speed become down. Then if you go back to the screen a lot of what happens is literally your brain isn’t juiced up it doesn’t have enough power as it would if it weren’t continually going back to the screen and frying it out. You know when you go back to the screen science proves that it’s also frying out the midbrain which is the rewards center in your brain. It’s becoming desensitized which can lead to erectile dysfunction and to not being happy in your own life because you need the instant gratification of the easy button and pornography to bathe your brain in dopamine and to pop up that medium speed artificially so you can get through your life.

When you leave the habit behind guess what happens that slow speed starts to come down that’s the unwiring and it’s called antihebiam learning theory, which means if you don’t go back to the screen and you’re not flooding your brain with dopamine. You’re not artificially being these speeds down or artificially poping this one up in the middle artificial from pornography supernormal stimulus. If you stop doing that you will unwire the pattern. Now of course unwiring isn’t the end-all and be all that’s the beginning. You stop watching pornography and your brain will start to relax and start to no longer take that neuropathway that it’s been taking back to porn. But as many of you know and you read it in the comments, if you don’t start rewiring your brain in the right direction you will have a very difficult time avoiding slips and relapses. You can’t just unwire your brain, you have to rewire it in the right direction.
