Porn Changes Your Personality

Porn Changes Your Personality

What is Personality?

To understand how porn changes your personality, it will help to know what the definition of a personality is. Personality is the way that a person views themself. While it does lead to how other people view them, people use personality to portray how they are interacting with the world.

So How Does This Relate to Porn?

When a person uses porn or masturbation to self-soothe, it leads to a personality type that is not serving that person well. It is forming a personality that is filled with unhealthy coping mechanisms, filled with more stress and anxiety, and filled with unhealthy views of women and sex. When people turn to porn, they do it to self-soothe and to feel better. This trains the brain to keep going back to the screen time and time again to feel better. This addiction creates brain fog, stress and anxiety, depression, trouble remembering things, and trouble focusing.

This is especially true for those who get hooked on watching porn. Their brains are at a crucial developmental stage and when addicted to porn, it:

  • Halts emotional maturity
  • Delays brain development
  • Decreases social awareness
  • Lowers self-awareness.

So, this person, that watching porn has turned the brain into, is not an accurate reflection of who that person is. It is not the personality of someone’s full potential. It leads to people misperceiving themselves, hence misperceiving those around you.

It’s Time to Quit Porn

When quitting porn, the brain starts to heal. It starts rewiring back to healthy brain patterns and will start increasing self-worth. So, get out of the screen and find real-life things that make you happy. When finding things that are fulfilling and give life meaning, the brain won’t want to go back to the screen for those unhealthy shots of dopamine. It will seek healthy levels of dopamine in the real world.

Brain Tip Strategy

Get on purpose. Get out into the real world and find something that creates happiness. This can be finding a hobby, joining a Facebook group to find like-minded people who you can spend time with, finding an exercise that’s enjoyable, or volunteering at an organization that you’re interested in.
