Delayed Ejaculation, Porn, and Masturbation, Oh My!

The Relationship Between Delayed Ejaculation, Porn, and Masturbation

How Do Porn and Masturbation Impact Delayed Ejaculation?

When consuming porn and masturbating, the brain is becoming damaged by an unhealthy rush of dopamine. While this hit of dopamine may feel good in the moment, it will lead to a decrease in mental and physical health afterward. The dopamine rush will start to knock out functioning in the frontal lobe and desensitize the reward center in the brain. This makes it so that each time you go back to the screen, the brain will need a bigger amount of stimulation to get there each time.

Now, when being with a partner, the brain will need a much higher stimulant than they can provide. The dopamine rush from masturbating and consuming porn is something you can’t receive from sex with a partner which gives you a normal dopamine rush. This is what can lead to delayed ejaculation.

What is the Solution?

Curing ejaculation issues means leaving porn and masturbation behind. The brain needs to get used to normal levels of dopamine again. When this happens, the craving for that unhealthy rush will be replaced with the desire to have happy and healthy sex with a partner. Feelings of arousal will return again with only normal levels of dopamine.

Despite what you may be thinking, normal levels of dopamine are not a bad thing. It’s a healthy thing and is what makes the connection to your partner and sex stronger, better, and more fun.

It can take some time, but try practicing with your partner. Don’t use porn or masturbation to do it and don’t let the mind drift to fantasy. Connect with your partner and stay with the sensations in the body. Communicate with your partner about what’s working and what isn’t. It may get difficult before it gets better, but working through those negative emotions and feelings will pay off.
